The MRCOOL DIY 12K BTU 23.5 SEER2 5th Gen Ductless Mini Split Heat Pump System heats and cools spaces up to 550 square feet from a standard 115V circuit, combining 12,000 BTU of capacity with the best cooling efficiency rating in the 5th Gen single-zone family. One compact system covers a room year-round with no ducts and no furnace.

It is also the definition of a first-timer-friendly install. The included 25-foot Quick Connect line set comes pre-charged with R-454B, so there is no vacuum pump, no gauges, and no special tools or refrigerant certification. Most homeowners have it mounted and connected in an afternoon.

What you should know

The box holds a complete single-zone system: pre-charged condenser, wall-mount air handler, and the 25-foot pre-charged Quick Connect line set. If your run between indoor and outdoor units is longer, the platform supports line sets up to 82 feet.

Although it uses 115V household voltage, the system still needs its own dedicated circuit with a breaker no larger than 20 amps and 18A minimum circuit ampacity. If you are not comfortable at the panel, that is the one part of the job to hand an electrician.

As with all 5th Gen equipment, components stay within the generation: the R-454B charge and Quick Connect fittings do not mix with 3rd or 4th Gen parts. If your room is under 400 square feet, the 9K system is the better-matched and cheaper option.
