MRCOOL's DIY single-zone mini-splits are ductless heat pumps that you can install onto your wall mount yourself. NO HVAC technicians or special tools needed. Each system heats and cools one room or zone, covering spaces from 350 to 1,500 square feet. Customize your unit with capacities from 9,000 to 36,000 BTU.

Every MRCOOL DIY system ships with pre-charged line sets, quick connect fittings and wall mount wiring.

Choosing the Right MRCOOL DIY Single Zone Wall Mount

When picking the right MRCOOL DIY single zone unit for your space, consider your room size, BTU capacity and voltage.

1. Match the BTU rating to your space. Select your unit with the right power level for the size of your room. BTU stands for British Thermal Unit. It measures how much heat an appliance can add or remove from a room in one hour.

Rooms with high ceilings, poor insulation, or heavy sun exposure may need the next size up.

2. Check your power supply. The 9K and 12K units plug into standard 115V household power. The 18K, 24K, and 36K units require a 230V circuit.

3. Choose the correct MRCOOL Generation. The 5th Gen is MRCOOL's newest DIY series, with improved efficiency and low-ambient heating down to -13°F. The 3rd and 4th Gen models have been discontinued and used the older R-410A refrigerant. If you own a 3rd or 4th Gen system, you can not mix any parts or components with a 5th Gen unit. Parts like the indoor head, outdoor condenser, and line sets must all be from the same generation.

What's Included with a MRCOOL DIY System?

A complete single zone system has two components: the outdoor condenser and the indoor wall-mounted air handler, connected by a pre-charged DIY line set with quick-connect fittings. Some listings on this page are individual components (air handler only or condenser only) for replacements or custom setups. If you're starting from scratch, choose a complete system or call us and we'll spec it for you.

Installing Your MRCOOL DIY Single Zone Wall Mount Unit

MRCOOL DIY Single Zone systems are designed for homeowner installation with no HVAC technician, no refrigerant handling or special tools needed. A wall-mount template is included, and the line sets arrive pre-charged so there's no vacuum pump, no refrigerant work and no HVAC technician required. Most homeowners finish the install in a weekend with basic tools.

The installation covers:

  1. Mounting plate installation - use the included template to mark and level the bracket
  2. Wall hole - drill the pass-through for the line set
  3. Prepare the line set - uncoil carefully and route to the outdoor unit
  4. Mount the indoor unit - hang the air handler on the bracket
  5. Outdoor unit placement - set the condenser on a pad or wall bracket
  6. Quick Connect® refrigerant lines - hand-tighten, then torque the fittings
  7. Open the service valves - release the pre-charged refrigerant
  8. Electrical wiring - connect power (hire an electrician for new 230V circuits)
  9. Test and wrap up - power on, connect Wi-Fi, and verify heating and cooling

Ceiling cassettes sit flush in the ceiling and are ideal for open floor plans or rooms with limited wall space. MRCOOL DIY ceiling cassettes require ceiling access and a more involved installation. For most single-room applications, the wall mount is the right call.
